Vista performed comprehensive hazardous materials surveys and on-site remediation monitoring until the completion of the demolition of six buildings. The survey and abatement management included a wide range of hazardous materials issues including asbestos-containing materials, lead-based and lead-containing components, PCB ballasts, universal wastes, ozone depleting chemicals, and an oil filled clarifier. This project involved survey, abatement and demolition of all of the structures. The structures included a former automotive service station, a former Taco Bell restaurant, and several structures which comprised the former nursery. We worked closely with the abatement contractor to determine which materials could remain in place through demolition and materials that would be required to prepare the structures for "clean" demolition. Waste stream segregation required consideration of not just the disposal of the individual materials, but also whether the material could be easily removed during abatement or could remain in place for demolition.

“Selecting this hazardous materials team from a field
of 18 highly qualified teams, proved to be very
beneficial for this project. The team’s knowledge of
buildings and building systems provided a
comprehensive hazardous materials inventory and a
complete set of construction documents. The
information provided by the team allowed for a smooth
bid process and prevented change orders during the
construction phase. The team’s unique approach in
inviting the regulatory agencies to review the reports
and construction documents prior to bid, allowed for a
comfort not experienced by CSUMB in previous
projects. This open cooperative relationship between
the client, consultant, contractor and the regulatory
agency allowed the project to be completed on time
and within the budget.” Ron Deller “Selecting this hazardous materials team from a field
